Case Study

Baglan Bay Innovation Centre, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council

Located within Baglan Energy Park, the Innovation Centre is a 25,000 sq ft state of the art building with modern office and Laboratory space, located on one of Wales’ premier Business Parks in the heart of South Wales.

The Centre will host different size units for start-up companies, indigenous businesses and inward investors looking for a base to set up and grow their operations. This development will support innovation, diversification and the growth of the regional economy.

The Centre will have a focus on innovation from a range of industry sectors including energy, digital, life sciences and similar innovative business activities. The aim is to create an environment where businesses can flourish and where products can be developed and commercialised to support the growth of regional business activities.

The innovative design and use of materials will provide a sustainable building that is energy positive with excess energy being used to generate hydrogen within the site. This initiative has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Welsh Government and UK Government through the Swansea Bay City Deal.

We were appointed by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council to provide furniture for meeting rooms and shared spaces throughout the building.

To reflect the sustainable design and aesthetics of the building we specified products with excellent environmental credentials and high recycled content such as the Moka felt chairs and stools which are made from 60 PET bottles.

“We worked closely with the Ministry of Furniture team to identify products that suited the ethos of the Technology Centre. As a result the building was fitted out with high quality products with a sustainable element that matched the feel and colour schemes of the building.” Richard Jenkins, Property Compliance Officer at Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council
